LEGO Track Meet (10 weeks)
for students in grades 3-8
This 10-week experience prepares teams of three for a USM-run meet hosted at STEM Coliseum. Students train with LEGO SPIKE Prime, building reliable driving, sensor skills, and pit-crew routines before competing in timed stations and friendly finals.
Through interactive lessons and hands-on activities, students will:
- Establish consistent driving, accurate turns, and repeatable starts.
- Use color and distance sensors to approach, stop, and square up reliably.
- Design quick-swap push/pull attachments and tune safe torque.
- Practice pit-crew checklists, timed resets, and driver rotations under light pressure.
- Scrimmage in a mock meet to understand scoring, penalties, and queueing.
- Compete on event day with sportsmanship and steady improvement as core goals.
Grounded in USM’s event rules and FIRST-inspired teamwork norms, this program highlights reliability, fairness, and positive competition.
