At the STEM Coliseum

STEM Coliseum

LEGO Robotics is where our youngest students take their first steps into mechatronics — building, programming, and competing with LEGO SPIKE and EV3 platforms in a mentor-led, hands-on environment. Through age-appropriate challenges modeled on FIRST LEGO League, students develop early problem-solving, teamwork, and coding skills while discovering that engineering is fun. It's the on-ramp to a lifetime pathway through STEM Coliseum's programs — from LEGO Robotics into FTC, VEX, and FRC competition robotics.

Combat Robotics

Combat Robotics puts engineering under pressure — students design, build, and battle robots ranging from antweight sumo bots to heavier BattleBots-style machines, testing their designs against the clock and against each other. Our emerging BattleBots Duo league gives students hands-on experience in fabrication, electrical systems, and strategy, while learning to iterate fast when a design doesn't survive first contact. It's mechatronics at its most competitive — and one of the fastest-growing programs at the Coliseum.

Competition Robotics

Competition Robotics is where students take on real engineering challenges through nationally recognized programs — FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), and VEX Robotics. Guided by industry mentors, students design, build, program, and drive robots through season-long challenges that mirror the pace and pressure of real-world engineering teams. It's mechatronics in action: entrepreneurship, electronics, precision manufacturing, and AI converging into hands-on experience that prepares students for Maine's evolving STEM workforce.
